09.01.23 Minor Updates and the D&D OGL issue

Hello everyone! 

Happy New Year. We're back writing in the final stretch goals and I, personally, am loving the book as it stands. This update is just a little well... update. 

Add-Ons

In November we have sent out codes and access links to those who have added PDFs and DungeonFog access as addons. There are still some backers who haven't responded (eg. DungeonFog Lifetime). In case you have missed the email,  reach out to us and we will deal with your request asap.

ONE D&D OGL

Some of you may have been tracking the One D&D OGL updates and 'leaks' etc. As sad as this might be for the future of that particular roleplaying system, our books are totally system agnostic. In Epic Locations (to use it's short name) we have tables packed with encounter ideas - not stat blocks. The OGL is not applicable to us at all. You can, and we hope you will, use Epic Locations to enhance your D&D game but ours is an inspiration and reference guide only. So no matter what happens with OGLs now, or in the future, Epic Locations is safe! 

TIMELINES

At the writing of this update everything is on track. Printing remains a constant challenge in terms of paper availablility but everything else is still ticking along - even though we took an xmas break! More updates to follow as soon we have anything more for you folks!

26.11.22 All clear and what now?

Hello all,

PDFS

Thank you for your patience. We too have had to be patience. We got news just yesterday that the funds were clearing into our account from the KS campaign. Why is this important? Well it means that we can now begin to compile the survey and the PDF rewards for you. 

Over the course of the next few weeks we'll finish up the survey (for those of you who do not know, we are only allowed by KS to send out a single survey so we must make sure it contains all the relevant information). As soon as those surveys are complete (this is up to you folks as to how long you take) we can release everything that needs to go. 

WRITING

Now that the KS is closed, Till and I (Guy) have been outlining the additional content to be added to each of the chapters as well as reworking the existing material to accommodate this. Till and I will be sitting next week together in the UK (he hosted me in Austria when we conceptualized the book, now it's my turn) to finalize the additional content and then it's on to writing, rewriting, and more rewriting. 

We're still on track for our timelines, and we're both super eager to get stuck in!

ARTWORK

We've already begun to look at the artwork we need, now that we've closed the KS and the stretch-goals are complete. Watch this space cause I'll be sharing some with you in the near future!

The cover is still a WIP (work in progress). I've submitted some new ideas to the team, based on your suggestions and feedback. We shall see, and once again, I'll keep you posted!

Hey all,

It's your weekly update! Your support has been amazing! We have just unlocked another stretch goal thanks to you and your continued efforts of spreading the word! The next one is something that we are very excitedly looking forward to: Sci Fi locations!

With your help, we can unlock this new stretch goal allowing you to turn each location into a strange, other worldly version - to take your players where no PC has gone before. As with all the other unlocks, it will come with inspiring prompts and quick reference tables to spark your imagination.

Benefits of Inspiration Tables

The Creator’s guide to Epic Locations – Nature futures a full page dedicated to Inspiration Tables per location in the book. There are 4 tables, providing 67 options, or roughly 1206 prompts throughout the whole book - and even more as we unlock new content!

The power of Words

The first table in each section is a block of 25 words linked to the location. This isn’t a random table, it’s a collection for you to pick and choose from. Combine them together to create strong sentences that you can drop into your descriptions.

Turn these three-word prompts into a sentence to descript an Artic shelf: Hopeless, Expansive, Desolate

The wind whispers the hopeless situation you find yourself in: without protecting you’ll freeze to death here. The hard ice stretches out before you, expanding to the horizon. Nothing moves in this desolate, cold place. You are quite alone.

Band of Badgers Q&A

Last Saturday we were invited as guests to the lovely folks at Band of Badgers. We had an hour long chat about the book, answered community questions, talked about the beginnings of the book, our personal journeys into the RPG space and more. So if you like, have a look here:

We love input from you! We'd love some suggestions from you. As a comment to this update list a location and one adjective that you think would make an awesome cover. We'll take all the locations listed and the one that is listed the most will form the basis of the brief we give to the artist for the final cover! 

An example would be: Ancient Forests, Brooding Mountains, Migratory Plains.

(If you like the current cover, just say so - maybe we don't need to change it at all!)
